Most of the World’s top riders are sponsored by NGK or use the company’s spark plugs and this year a host of stars have enjoyed a fantastic season, picking up an array of prestigious titles.
Polish World Speedway Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik uses NGK spark plugs while the company sponsors 2020 World runner-up and three-time World Champion, Britain’s Tai Woffinden, as well as third-placed Fredrik Lindgren of Sweden.
In addition, fellow Brit Robert Lambert is the 2020 European Champion while the current World Ice Speedway Champion Daniil Ivanov of Russia is sponsored by NGK.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Russia retained the World team championship led by sponsored star Emil Sayfutdinov and teammate Artem Laguta, who also uses NGK spark plugs.
In Britain, a host of riders have also enjoyed memorable seasons with NGK-sponsored Rory Schlein winning the British Championship while NGK spark plugs helped Dan Bewley take the British Under 21 speedway title. Sponsored rider Drew Kemp took the British Under 19 Speedway Championship title and Dan Thompson won the 2020 British 500cc Youth Speedway Championship.
Dan and his twin Joe also made history by becoming the first ever riders to appear in all four British Championship finals: Youth, U19, U21 and Senior, all in the same season.
NGK Spark Plug (UK) Ltd’s John Money, who handles Speedway sponsorship on behalf of the company, said: “It has been a fantastic achievement by the riders in what has been a severely ravaged year for the sport. Their performances go to show the quality and consistency of our products across the whole spectrum of the sport.
“They continue to be the spark plug that the riders trust and choose to use and have once again proved their pedigree on the track in what are incredibly demanding racing conditions.
“It was a particularly impressive performance by Dan and Joe Thompson to have accomplished such a unique achievement in making the four British finals. Let’s all hope that the sport will return in better shape than ever next year when NGK will once again be supplying many of the country’s and World’s top riders.”
