In all reality, it is a relatively easy task once the brake pads/calibre are out of the way. In summary, invariably brake discs are secured onto the hub by a single screw (though some car makers do use a couple of screws) and once these are removed, the discs can simply be taken off and replaced.
Unfortunately, the screws all too often become corroded and seize. That is where WD-40 Specialist Penetrant comes into its own. Without getting too technical, its extremely low surface tension formula quickly, and safely, works its way into a problematic area and loosens it, providing the right amount of lubrication to help release the retaining screws.
Various online self-help videos show how, in extreme cases, a simple but firm tap on the rear of the brake disc (with the brake calibre removed) can help the process once Specialist Penetrant has been applied. Also, using the correct sized screwdriver head to meet the screw helps to avoid the screw from being rounded.
As part of its latest collaboration with LKQ Euro Car Parts, the country’s leading supplier of vehicle replacement parts, between April 1 and May 12, WD-40® is giving away free 50ml sample cans of Specialist Penetrant with every WD-40® product bought.
